A character's placement swings with team comps, weapon banners and new artifact sets, so treat the pre-loaded tray as a starting point rather than a fixed verdict. Remove units you have not built, promote the ones carrying your Spiral Abyss runs, and use ＋ Add items to drop in each new release as its banner goes live. The roster is current as of mid-2026 — the newest units are always one tap away.
Most published tier lists share a few criteria, and knowing them makes your own board easier to defend. The big one: characters are evaluated within optimal team compositions, not in isolation. A unit that looks mediocre alone can be top row once its synergies are accounted for, which is why support units so often outrank raw damage dealers.
Constellation levels change the answer too. A C0 tier list ranks everyone at zero constellations — how they perform the moment you pull them — while a C6 tier list assumes full investment, and the two orders can look very different. Plenty of 4-star characters climb several rows at C6, and a few 5-star units lean on constellations more than their base kit suggests. Decide which of the two you are building before you start dragging, or the board will argue with itself.
Then set your own tier definitions. S can mean strongest in a vacuum, best value for the investment, or simply the ones you reach for — none of those is wrong, but mixing them mid-board is what makes a tier list impossible to explain afterwards.
Almost every disagreement about a Genshin tier list comes from ranking characters that do completely different jobs against each other. Four roles cover the roster:

A four-star in the right comp routinely outperforms a five-star dropped into the wrong one, which is why Bennett and Xingqiu have sat near the top of community rankings for years while flashier units come and go. Constellations move the needle hard too — a C6 four-star and a C0 five-star are effectively different characters, so a whale's ranking and a free-to-play ranking will never match. Add element coverage, reaction comps and whether someone is rating Spiral Abyss or open-world play, and you get five reasonable tier lists that all look different. None of them is wrong; they are answering different questions.

Main DPS stays on field and deals damage, Sub-DPS contributes from off field, supports and buffers raise the team's numbers, and healers or shielders keep everyone standing. Ranking across those roles is why lists disagree — it is usually more useful to rank within a role.
They answer different questions. Constellation level, free-to-play versus whale accounts, Spiral Abyss versus open world, and team comp all change the answer. A four-star in the right team often beats a five-star in the wrong one.
Frequently, yes. Bennett, Xingqiu and Xiangling have held top-tier community placings for years because their kits enable whole team comps. Rarity and power are not the same thing in Genshin.
