Specialty Change heroes get their own tiles. Adventurer Ras and Falconer Kluri are not skins — they are separate heroes with separate kits, which is why they are ranked separately here.
Only released heroes are loaded. Announced ones stay off until they are actually playable. In a game seven years deep with a roster this size, a list padded with heroes nobody has built is worse than a shorter honest one.

Epic Seven has one of the longest-running metas in the genre, and its rankings move for reasons that catch newer players out.
Gear decides more than the hero does. Speed, effectiveness and effect resistance can turn a mid hero into a first-turn threat, so a list of bare heroes and a list of well-geared ones disagree almost completely. Say which one you built.
PvP and PvE are separate games. Arena and RTA reward speed, cleave and counters; Abyss, Labyrinth and Guild War reward sustain and specific mechanics. A hero can be untouchable in one and unused in the other.
Exclusive Equipment and Imprints shift the board. A hero's ceiling often depends on investment most accounts will never make, which is why tournament lists and everyday lists rarely match.

By class — Knight, Warrior, Thief, Mage, Ranger, Soul Weaver — is the natural cut, and it stops Soul Weavers being marked down for a damage number they were never meant to post.
By element matters because of the elemental advantage system: Fire, Ice, Earth and the Light and Dark pair. Being the best Ice option is worth more than being the fortieth-best hero overall.
Moonlight heroes on their own pass. They come from a different summon pool entirely, so ranking them against standard heroes compares things you rarely choose between.
