About this template

Rank the genres

Nobody ranks music genres neutrally, and pretending otherwise ruins a perfectly good argument. Your list says what you actually listen to, not what a critic would defend in print. Pop, Hip-Hop, Rock, R&B, EDM, Country, Jazz, Metal, Indie, Classical, Reggae, K-Pop, Lo-fi and Punk are already sitting on this music genre tier list template, so the awkward part — working out where Country really goes — starts the moment you open it.

Play counts are the honest metric. Most people rank on something fuzzier than that: the songwriting they respect, the genre that never gets skipped, the one that works whether you're driving, working or half asleep at two in the morning. Sub-genres belong here too if the broad labels feel blunt, so add shoegaze or drill or bossa nova and rename the rows to match. When it looks right, export your music taste as a shareable tier list or a clean PNG. The walkthrough at how to make a tier list is short if you want the mechanics first, and what S-tier really means settles the usual fight over how many genres deserve that top row.

What counts as an S tier music genre?

S-tier genres are the ones you never skip. They fill most of your library, they survive almost any mood, and you'd defend them at a party without needing a run-up. Strip your streaming history down to a single genre for a year — whatever you'd keep belongs in S tier music genres. A-tier is what you reach for most weeks. Anything mood-dependent lands in B or C — good in the right moment, forgettable in the wrong one. D is the stuff you scroll straight past, however good it looks on paper. Worth remembering: enjoyment and respect aren't the same thing, and a genre you admire but never actually play probably isn't S-tier no matter what the critics say.
