That gap between what people claim and what they actually drink is the whole reason a coffee chain tier list is worth building. Dunkin', Tim Hortons, Peet's, Dutch Bros, Costa, Caribou and Blue Bottle are sitting in the tray already, so the only job left is deciding who deserves the top row and who has been coasting on convenience.
Be honest about your criteria, because they're rarely the ones you'd admit to. Distance wins more mornings than quality does. Price stops mattering the moment you're tired enough. And consistency is badly underrated — a chain that makes a merely decent flat white the same way in every city is pulling off something harder than a great one you can only get downtown. A-tier is the solid everyday choice you'd never complain about. Anything you settle for because it's open and you're tired belongs in B or C. D is burnt coffee at premium prices, or a drink that arrives slightly different every visit. Price, speed and consistency all belong in the calculation — though if a chain is winning on speed alone, notice that before you promote it.
