A single ranked column tends to collapse under its own weight here, because a hero's value depends on the role it fills. Ranking inside each role first and merging afterwards is far quicker, and produces a board you can actually defend.

Two honest Overwatch boards can look nothing alike, and it is usually one of these reasons rather than one of them being wrong.
Rank changes everything. A hero that demands precise aim or tight coordination sits far higher in the top ranks than in the middle of the ladder, where the coordination simply is not there. Most disagreements about a hero are really disagreements about which rank is being ranked.
Counters are the whole game. Overwatch rewards swapping, so a hero that is dominant into one composition can be close to unplayable into another. Ranking a hero in the abstract hides that; ranking it as a first pick versus a counter pick gives different boards.
Patches move the floor. Balance passes shift numbers regularly, so any ranking is a snapshot. That is exactly why this page is a maker rather than a published verdict — your board reflects the patch you are playing.
Tanks create space and absorb pressure. With one tank per team their impact is enormous, so a bad tank matchup is felt more than a bad damage one.
Damage heroes carry the kill pressure, and the gap between them is mostly about how much aim and positioning they demand versus what they give back.
Support heroes are the most routinely underrated on solo-minded boards, because their value lands in someone else's statistics. Sustain, mobility and a fight-swinging ultimate matter more than their own damage numbers.
